Resolutions Revisited

1 03 2009

Phillippians 3:13-14 (NIV): Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

I know it’s March and we’re well into the year now but resolutions are not just about starting the year right. They are about continuing in the right track and finishing the year strong. For the believer it’s about letting Jesus -cooperating with Him- fix our secret (and not so secret) messes. It’s about gaining victory over secret places of unkempt rooms and mess filled hearts.

My office at church and at home were in need of some major organization. Yet on the surface, in the sanctuary and in my living room, everything looked good. Lurking behind closed doors, however, was so much clutter that I didn’t not want to deal with it.

So Christ comes and goes past the nice organized things to deal with the hidden distractions. There are those areas in our lives that we can’t seem to get over or get right. We wallow in depression and self-pity. Or we try to ignore the reality that we cannot handle it.

We are to partner with Jesus Christ and give Him the leading role. Take Him to the place of clutter, weakness, and defeat and allow Him to show you what to do. Consult the Bible for God’s direction and listen to the Holy Spirit (which do not contradict). Then watch the Savior Creator work in you and through you to press toward the mark of victorious living in God.
